Kohler leads Roadrunners at Saturday's Texas Invitational

AUSTIN — Grace Kohler won the 3,000-meter steeplechase and UTSA registered a trio of podium finishes at Saturday's Texas Invitational.

Racing in the event for just the second time in her career, Kohler, a junior, clocked a 11:14.02 to easily defeat runner-up Nina Gonzales of Sam Houston State by nearly 46 seconds.

The Roadrunners added a pair of runner-up performances.

Emily Perez raced to a time of 4:28.81 in the 1,500m, while the 1,600m relay quartet of Evelyn Clark, Kelly Goudeau, Chelsea Taylor and Shantel Swift passed the baton in a season-best 3:42.45 and that was the fourth-fastest mark in program history.

UTSA finished seventh in the team standings with 49 points. Meet host Texas won the title with 184, while Cal State Northridge (152) and Sam Houston (74.5) rounded out the top three.

The Roadrunners will return to action next week at the Mt. SAC Relays. The three-day meet is scheduled to begin on Thursday, April 16.
