BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — UAB got past UTSA by a score of 4-3 on Sunday, which sent the Roadrunners to their third consecutive setback by just one point.
The Blazers (5-4) jumped out to an early lead by picking up wins on the second and third doubles courts.
Pardis Kianoush and Elaine Simon got past Daniela Garcia-Diaz and Nicole Karaklis by a count of 8-2 at the No. 2 position, while Rachel Daniell and Amy Lowther downed Lina Hallgren and Alena Shichkova, 8-4.
The Roadrunners (6-6) picked up wins at the Nos. 2, 3 and 4 spots in the singles lineup, but UAB clinched the team victory with triumphs on the other three courts.
Miriam Rosell Canudas won her third consecutive outing (sixth in last seven matches overall) in straight sets (7-5, 6-0) against Daniell at the second position. Meanwhile, Shichkova also was victorious in two sets (6-3, 6-3) against Paula Castro at the No. 3 slot and Karaklis won her team-leading eighth contest of the spring in a 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 win against Simon on the fourth court.
UTSA will start a five-match home stand next Thursday, March 12, with an 11 a.m. contest against Missouri State (3-6).
