BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Troy sent UTSA to its second consecutive setback with a 4-3 victory on Saturday.
The Trojans (6-4) jumped out to an early lead after winning the opening two doubles matches.
After Linnea Skymberg and Jiayuan Xue rolled to an easy 6-1 win on the at the No. 2 position against Daniela Garcia-Diaz and Nicole Karaklis, Anja Cosovic and Trang Huynh secured the point with their 6-4 trimuph at the top spot against Jacobea Junger and Miriam Rosell Canudas.
The lead swelled to 3-0 after Troy came out on top at the fourth and third singles courts, but Lina Hallgren got the Roadrunners (6-5) on the board with her 6-4, 6-2 victory at the No. 5 slot against Julia Albuquerque.
However, the Trojans clinched their fourth consecutive victory at the top spot in the lineup when Huynh got past Junger in straight sets (6-2, 6-4).
UTSA's other two points of the day came from Rosell Canudas at the second position (6-4, 2-6, 1-0 [10-8] vs. Sanae Ohta) and Irene Gandara Gonzalez on the sixth court (6-3, 3-6, 6-3 vs. Brooke Durden)
The Roadrunners will conclude their five-match road trip on Sunday with a noon matchup at UAB (4-4).
