SAN ANTONIO — Nearing the end of a nine-game home stand, UTSA will welcome IH-35 rival Texas State on Tuesday, March 31, to Roadrunner Field at 6 p.m.
Tuesday will be the second meeting of 2015 against the Bobcats. The two dueled it out in San Marcos on March 17 with Texas State coming out on top 11-7. Patrick Herbelin took the loss for UTSA as he allowed three runs on two hits and did not record an out. Jesse Baker had a 3-for-5 performance with two runs, three RBIs and a home run.
The Roadrunners (15-13) are coming off a three-game conference series against then-No. 25 Florida Atlantic. The visiting Owls won the rubber match 9-5 behind a big seventh inning of five runs.
Junior Tyler Straub leads the Roadrunners season box batting a .354 clip. Straub leads the team in hits (35) and stolen bases (6) and has scored 18 runs and driven in 16.
Freshman Chance Kirby will get the start against Texas State. Kirby is 1-1 on the season with a 5.89 ERA through 18.1 innings of action. The right-hander has struck out 16 batters and walked six in 10 appearances.
Texas State (12-14-1) heads to the Bird Bath off a league series against Georgia Southern. The Bobcats won 2-of-3 games, including the series finale, 11-4.
Cedric Vallieres leads the Bobcats squad with a .286 batting average. Vallieres is third on the team in hits (24) and has scored a team-best 24 runs. He also leads the team in doubles (6) and home runs (4).
Montana Parsons will get his second start against the Roadrunners on Tuesday. The right-handed pitcher has a 3.42 ERA over 23.2 innings of action. He’s 0-2 on the season in six appearances and has struck out 14 and walked four.
