BATON ROUGE, La. — Brogan Townend recorded a season-best finish to lead UTSA to 16th place at the LSU Tigers Classic, which concluded on Sunday at the University Club (6,251 yards/par 72).
Townend carded a 3-over-par 75 in the final round to wrap up an 8-over 224 (75-74-75) and tie for 16th place, registering the third top-20 showing of her junior campaign in the process. The junior from England had birdies on a pair of par fives (Nos. 6 and 11) to give her five for the weekend, while also posting 36 pars over the 54 holes, the fourth-best total in the 89-player field.
Aimee Ponte tied for 73rd with a 243 (80-80-83), Libby Thomas tied for 79th at 246 (85-81-80), Nikki Long was 81st (86-86-76—248) and Becky McGeehan placed 87th (84-86-91—261) to round out the UTSA lineup.
The Roadrunners turned in a 314 on Sunday, a seven-shot improvement from Saturday’s round, and they finished 16th with a 959 (324-321-314) in a field that included nine top-50 teams.
No. 6 LSU captured the team title with a 15-over 879, followed by No. 11 Mississippi State (884), TCU (895), No. 26 Tulane (897) and No. 10 Wake Forest (907).
Elise Bradley of LSU beat Rica Tse of Mississippi State on the second hold of a sudden-death playoff to claim individual medalist honors after the two tied at 2-under 214.
UTSA will return home to host the UTSA Matchup, an 18-hole match-play event against 34th-ranked Baylor and No. 49 Texas, next Sunday, April 5, at Briggs Ranch Golf Club.
