AUSTIN — All-American Keyunta Hayes raced to a second-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles to lead the UTSA men's track & field team at this weekend's Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.
The reigning Conference USA Track Athlete of the Week followed up last Saturday's winning performance at the season-opening UTSA Challenge Invitational with a runner-up effort on Friday night. Hayes clocked a season-best 49.48, the second-fastest time of his illustrious career, in finishing second to Kansas' Michael Stigler, who crossed the line in 48.44. The senior from Tyler qualified for the final after recording a preliminary heat time of 50.28, which ranked second in the 81-man field.
Meanwhile, teammate Jurmarcus Shelvin also qualified for the 400m hurdles final and he placed sixth with a career-best time of 50.46, which vaulted him to third on the program's all-time performer's chart.
The Roadrunners will return to action next Saturday, April 4, when they host the UTSA Invitational at the Park West Athletics Complex.
