AUSTIN — Whitney Flannel and Stephanie Wangui both registered top-three finishes to lead the UTSA women's track & field team at this weekend's Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.
Wangui earned a medal for the second consecutive week following her runner-up performance in Thursday's invitational division of the 800 meters. The junior from Leander clocked a career-best time of 2:09.49 in finishing as the top collegian, which was an improvement of nearly a second-and-a-half from last week's PR of 2:10.84. Kendra Chambers topped the eight-woman field in 2:06.57.
Meanwhile, Flannel earned a bronze medal in Friday's B section of the high jump with her clearance of 5-9 ¼ (1.76m) and it, too, marked her second straight top-three finish to open the outdoor campaign. She finished with the same mark as Missouri's Morgan Whitson and New Mexico Junior College's Morgan Whitson, but those two finished ahead of the senior from West Columbia due to fewer misses.
The Roadrunners will return to action next Saturday, April 4, when they host the UTSA Invitational at the Park West Athletics Complex.
