UTSA downs New Mexico State on Wednesday for seventh win in last eight matches

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA rolled past New Mexico State by a 6-1 score on Wednesday at the UTSA Tennis Center.

The Roadrunners improved to 12-6 on the season with their seventh win in the last eight matches (10th in last 12 overall), while the Aggies fell to 4-11.

UTSA quickly grabbed a 1-0 lead with a sweep of the top two doubles courts.

Diogo Casa and Yannick Junger dispatched Charles Baron and Germain Degardin, 8-5, at No. 2 for the tandem's second straight win since first playing together on Monday in the 7-0 win against UAB.

The undefeated duo of Tito Moreiras and Tomas Stillman downed Paul Denele and Thomas Douglas, 8-2, at the top spot to remain perfect at 5-0.

In singles, the Birds carried the momentum to win on five of the six courts.

Junger first took care of Denele at No. 2 (6-1, 6-2) followed by Casa upending Barron at No. 6 (6-2, 6-4), marking his fourth consecutive victory.

Stillman, ITA’s 82nd ranked player, sealed a UTSA triumph by defeating Stahinja Trecakov at the top spot (6-3, 6-4) to improve his overall record to 15-3.

Moreiras followed suit with his 11th consecutive victory in a 7-5, 6-2 decision over Patrick Pfister at No. 3, sending his record to 14-3 on the year.

Joel Rubio posted his sixth straight singles triumph at No. 4 in a three-set win against Liam Goldberg (6-4, 3-6, 6-1).

The sole victory for the Aggies came on the last remaining court when Joao Riquelme fell to Degardin, 4-6, 5-7.

UTSA will travel to College Station to meet No. 9 Texas A&M (11-3) at 4 p.m. on Sunday.
