Top-ranked Texas A&M topples UTSA on Tuesday night, 11-1

SAN ANTONIO — Top-ranked Texas A&M cruised past UTSA, 11-1, on Tuesday night at Wolff Stadium in front of a crowd of 3,706 fans.

The Aggies (25-1), the first of two ranked opponents the Roadrunners (13-11) have on schedule this week, almost held UTSA scoreless for the first time this season.

The Birds fell behind early, as the Texas A&M batted around en route to six runs in the opening frame. Starting pitcher Boone Mokry was charged with five of those runs, while Logan Onda allowed one.

Mokry was tagged with his first loss of the season as he failed to record an out and allowed five runs on a season-high four hits and one walk.

The Aggies went quietly the following three innings before plating another four runs in the fifth and one more in the seventh for an 11-0 lead.

C.J. Pickering and Geonte Jackson had UTSA’s only two hits through eight innings with both coming in the second.

The Roadrunners recorded back-to-back hits with pinch-hitter Grant Gibbs notching the team’s third hit of the night with an RBI single that plated Matt Hilston to avoid the shutout.

Making his seventh start of the year, Turner Larkins earned the win with six scoreless  innings of work. After only issuing four walks over 27.2 innings, Larkins issued two against the Roadrunners but also struck out four.

Texas A&M outhit UTSA, 19-4, and also committed one defensive miscue.

The Roadrunners will return to the freindly confines of the Bird Bath on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. contests against Incarnate Word (9-13).​
