SAN ANTONIO — No. 70 UTSA continued its hot stretch with a 7-0 shutout of UAB on Monday afternoon at the UTSA Tennis Center.
The Roadrunners ran their record to 11-6 on the year and 3-1 against league competition with their ninth victory in the last 11 matches. Meanwhile, the Blazers fell to 5-7 overall and 0-3 against conference teams.
In doubles play, Tito Moreiras and Tomas Stillman made quick work of Mitchell Martell and Luiz Felipe Pinto at No. 1 with an 8-2 win to stay perfect as a tandem at 4-0.
Diogo Casa and Yannick Junger then dispatched Charles McCombs and Christopher Morris, 8-4, at No. 2 to clinch the first point of the afternoon for UTSA.
Stillman, who is ranked 77th by the ITA in singles, gave the home side a 2-0 advantage with a 6-1, 6-0 sweep of Martell at No. 1. The senior from Harlingen now owns a 14-3 dual-match ledger with his 12th win in his last 13 tries.
Joel Rubio got UTSA to within one point of securing the match with a 6-1, 6-4 triumph against Pinto at No. 4.
Moreiras then provided the decisive win with a 6-3, 6-4 decision over Stepan Vancurick on the third court. The sophomore extended his winning streak to 10 matches and is 13-3 on the season.
The Roadrunners completed the shutout by winning the three remaining contests.
Casa outlasted Morris, 6-4, 1-6, 6-3, at No. 6, Junger rallied for a 5-7, 6-1, 1-0 (11-9) victory at No. 2 and Joao Riquelme scored a 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7) victory at No. 5.
The Roadrunners will close out their current four-match home stand against New Mexico State at 1 p.m. on Wednesday.
