SAN ANTONIO — UTSA received two winning performances and a total of eight podium finishes at this weekend's season-opening UTSA Challenge Invitational at the Park West Athletics Complex.
All-American Keynta Hayes opened his final campaign by clocking a national-leading and facility-record time of 50.47 in the 400-meter hurdles, while teammate Jurmarcus Shelvin was second in 51.23.
Christopher Hall picked up the Roadrunners' other gold medal of the meet when he circled the oval in a meet-record 46.86 in the 400m.
Meanwhile, Mike Medrano raced to a pair of silver medals, first in the 1,500m (3:51.51) and later in the 3k (PR 8:38.55).
UTSA also received a trio of third-place performances.
All-American Andrew Akens earned a bronze medal in the shot put with his measurement of 55-2 ¼ (16.82m), Dionte Robinson was third in the 200m with a wind-aided time of 21.36 and Barrett Brock tied for third in the pole vault with his clearance of 15-7 (4.75m).
The Roadrunners finished third in the team standings with 99 points. Texas Tech won the two-day meet (175.5), while Kentucky was second (122.5).
UTSA will return to action at next week's Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. The four-day meet is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, March 25.
