SAN ANTONIO — No. 70 UTSA saw its five-match winning streak come to an end with a heartbreaking 4-3 loss to 55th-ranked Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Thursday at the UTSA Tennis Center.
Due to the weather, the match started with singles competition, where the Roadrunners (10-6) took an early 1-0 lead.
Conference USA Player of the Week Tito Moreiras upended Kevin Bettendroffer, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 3 for his eighth consecutive victory.
Javier Pujol then evened the match at one with a 6-3, 6-0 defeat against Joao Riquelme on the fifth court.
UTSA responded with wins in the next two contests to take a 3-1 lead.
Joel Rubio dispatched Guillaume Rauseo at No. 4, 6-1, 3-6, 7-5, and Diogo Casa downed Arthur Bedel at the sixth spot in the lineup by a 7-6 (7-4), 7-5 count.
However, the Islanders (10-3) rallied to even the score with a pair of three-set wins at the top two positions.
