Roadrunners snap losing streak on Thursday with 4-2 victory against North Texas

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA rallied to down North Texas by a score of 4-2 on Thursday afternoon at the UTSA Tennis Center. Only the singles portion of the match was played.

The Mean Green (4-10) jumped out to an early 2-1 lead, as Alexis Thoma defeated Lina Hallgren on the fifth court (6-4, 6-2) and that was followed by Alena Shichkova's tiebreaking defeat against Agustina Valenzuela, 7-5, 7-6 (7-4) on court three. Anastasiya Shestakova then downed Jacobea Junger at the No. 2 position in three sets (6-3, 1-6, 6-2).

The Roadrunners (9-8) began its rally when reigning Conference USA Player of the Week Miriam Rosell Canudas picked up a 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 victory at the top spot against Kseniya Bardabush.

Irene Gandara Gonzalez followed suit by upending Franziska Sprinkmeyer (5-7, 6-2, 6-3) at No. 6, which gave UTSA a 3-2 lead.

Nicole Karaklis clinched the match with a come-from-behind 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-6) triumph against Kamilla Galieva at the No. 4 spot.

The Roadrunners will conclude their six-match home stand with an 11 a.m. contest on Sunday against Middle Tennessee (15-3).
