SAN ANTONIO — UT Arlington rallied for a 4-3 victory and sent UTSA to its second consecutive setback on Monday.
Playing for the fourth time in five days, the Roadrunners (8-8) grabbed the early lead by rallying for the doubles point.
After Christine Foote and Augustina Serio picked up an 8-2 victory against Daniela Garcia-Diaz and Lina Hallgren at the third spot, Jacobea Junger and Miriam Rosell Canudas won their third consecutive outing with an 8-4 decision against Elizabeth Thoms and Ekaterina Tugarinova at the No. 1 position. Nicole Karaklis and Alena Shichkova then clinched the point for UTSA with their 8-5 triumph against Jessica Birowski and Angeles de los Rios on the second court.
The lead grew to two after Shichkova came off singles court No. 3 with a 6-3, 6-0 win against Astrid Gehre, but the Mavericks (8-3) won the next three contests to go in front, 3-2.
Irene Gandara Gonzalez then won her team-leading 11th match of the spring with a 6-3, 6-3 decision against Tugarinova at the sixth position and the tilt was to be decided on the fifth court.
However, Birowski was able to down Hallgren in straight sets (6-3, 6-2) to clinch UTA's third victory in its last four outings.
UTSA will continue its six-match home stand on Friday when it hosts North Texas (4-9) at 11 a.m.
