SAN ANTONIO — Stephen F. Austin put an end to UTSA's two-match winning streak with a 4-2 victory on Sunday evening.
The Ladyjacks (8-4), who downed Incarnate Word by a score of 6-1 earlier in the day, rallied for the early lead after dropping the first doubles contest.
The Roadrunners (8-7) won the first tilt when Jacobe Junger and Miriam Rosell Canudas cruised to an 8-3 win at the top spot against Denise Maxl and Macarena Sedano Acosta.
However, Stephen F. Austin came out in front on the other two courts by identical 8-6 scores for an early 1-0 advantage.
Vivienne Kulicke and Valeria Terentyeva were victorious against Nicole Karaklis and Alena Shichkova at the No. 2 position and Julia Lorca and Dhanielly Quevedo got past Daniela Garcia-Diaz and Lina Hallgren on the third court.
Rosell Canudas won her sixth consecutive match at the top singles spot (6-2, 6-1 vs. Maxl) to even the score, but Lorca put the Ladyjacks back in front with her 6-2, 6-1 triumph against Irene Gandara Gonzalez at the sixth position.
Hallgren quickly knotted things up at two following her 6-2, 6-3 victory against Sedano Acosta on court five, but SFA clinched the victory with wins at the Nos. 2 and 3 slots in the lineup.
Quevedo held off Junger on the second court by scores of 7-5 and 6-4 and Kulicke fended off Shichkova in straight sets at No. 3, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5).
UTSA will conclude its busy three-day stretch with an 11 a.m. contest against UT Arlington (7-3) on Monday.
