SAN ANTONIO — No. 72 UTSA extended its winning streak to four matches with a 7-0 blanking of Incarnate Word on Saturday afternoon at Mabry Tennis Center.
The Roadrunners improved to 9-5 overall and were victorious for the sixth time in their last seven outings in avenging a 4-3 setback to the crosstown Cardinals last year.
UTSA swept all three doubles matches to earn the first point of the match. Tito Moreiras and Tomas Stillman combined for a 6-2 win against Tucker Brown and Joey Vatanadilok at the top spot, while Diogo Casa and Joel Rubio ran their record 8-3 on the year with a 6-2 decision over Leonard Ivic and Brody Rodriguez at the second spot. Christian Carrillo and Jake Rother teamed up for a 6-3 win against Nicholas Ramirez and Andre Buchanan-Dempsey at No. 3.
The Roadrunners made quick work of UIW (5-12) in singles, winning all six contests in straight sets.
Stillman, the No. 77-ranked singles player, swept Ivic, 6-2, 6-2, at the top spot for his 10th straight win, sending his season ledger to 12-2.
Moreiras posted his first win of the year at No. 2 with a 6-2, 6-1 triumph against Vatanadolik to run his record to 10-3 overall.
Rubio edged Brown, 6-4, 7-6 (8-6), at No. 3 and Joao Riquelme took care of Rodriguez, 6-1, 6-2, on the fourth court.
Rother dispatched Buchanan-Dempsey, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 5 and Mark Ginting scored a 6-0, 6-1 victory against Ramirez at the sixth position.
The Roadrunners will host No. 60 South Alabama (8-5) at 10 a.m. Sunday.
