SAN ANTONIO — Tito Morieras and Thomas Stillman continued their roll of victories in doubles and singles competition in leading the No. 72-ranked Roadrunners to a convincing 6-1 victory against Liberty on Thursday at the UTSA Tennis Center.
Morieras and Stillman were paired together for the first time at No. 1 doubles and opened the match with a strong showing by posting a 6-1 decision over Diego Castano and Dillion Segur.
UTSA (8-5) earned the doubles point on the third and final court when Yannick Junger and Jake Rother downed David Bush and Egon Samaai by a 6-4 score after Liberty’s (8-5) Jorge Azuero and Sam Matheson defeated Diogo Casa and Joel Rubio, 6-2.
The Roadrunners took control in singles with five straight-set victories.
No. 77-ranked Stillman scored a 6-4, 6-4 triumph over Segur at No. 1, improving his record to 11-2 for the season with his ninth straight win.
Morieras won his sixth straight match with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Sammai at No. 3.
Joao Riquelme contributed his third consecutive victory at No. 6 defeating Diego Castano in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.
Rubio upended Bush by a 6-4, 6-3 margin and junior Jake Rather downed Bush at No. 6, 6-3, 6-2.
The Flames sole point came in the final competitive match at the second spot when Junger fell to Matheson, 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-5).
This marks the Roadrunners sixth victory in their last seven outings and will look to carry the momentum into their next match at Incarnate Word (5-11) on Saturday.
