SAN ANTONIO — UTSA ended its three-match losing streak with a 7-0 shutout of Missouri State on Thursday.
The Roadrunners (7-6) grabbed the early lead by winning both completed doubles matches.
After Daniela Garcia-Diaz and Lina Hallgren cruised to a 6-1 victory against Abbey Belote and Mackenzie Rozell at the third spot in the lineup, Jacobea Junger and Miriam Rosell Canudas downed Miranda Poile and Ema Turudija by a score of 6-4.
UTSA carried the momentum into singles play, as it did not allow the Bears (3-9) to win a set.
Alena Shichkova swept Rozell by identical 6-1 scores on court No. 3 and Junger followed with a 6-0, 6-3 win against Ekaterina Donetskova at the No. 2 position. Lina Hallgren's 6-2, 6-2 victory against Poile on the fifth court clinched the victory for the Roadrunners, who had dropped their last three outings by one point each.
In the three other singles contests, Rosell Canudas picked up her fourth consecutive win with a 6-4, 6-3 triumph against Turudija at the top spot in the lineup, while Irene Gandara Gonzalez (6-1, 6-3 vs. Belote at No. 6) and Nicole Karaklis (6-4, 6-1 vs. Anelisse Torrico at No. 4) both won their team-leading ninth match of the spring.
UTSA will continue its six-match home stand with a 1 p.m. contest on Saturday against Texas-Pan American (4-6).
