UTEP edges Roadrunners on Sunday, 4-3

EL PASO — UTEP ended UTSA's three-match winning streak with a narrow 4-3 victory on Sunday.

The Miners (6-2) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after winning on courts one and three of doubles play.

The Roadrunners (6-4) picked up their lone victory in the opening three tits when Jacobea Junger and Miriam Rosell Canudas defeated Jeannez Daniel and Matilda Tench at the No. 2 position, 6-2.

The squads the split the six singles contests.

Rosell Canudas downed Daniel on the second court in three sets (6-4, 1-6, 6-4), while Lina Hallgren got past Lois Wagenvoort at the No. 4 spot in the lineup, 4-6, 6-4, 11-9, and Irene Gandara Gonzalez outlasted Daphne Visscher at the fifth position in three sets, 2-6, 7-6 (5-7), 13-11.

UTSA will continue its season-long five-match road trip next Saturday, March 7, at Troy (4-4). First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m.
