SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will travel to the Bayou State this week to compete at the 30th Annual Louisiana Classics. The two-day event is scheduled to begin on Monday at Oakbourne Country Club (7,098 yards/par 72) in Lafayette, La.
The Roadrunners will face top-ranked Illinois, Illinois State, Kansas, Kansas State, Kent State, Louisiana-Lafayette, Middle Tennessee, Mississippi State, Northwestern, South Alabama, Southeastern Louisiana, Southern Miss and Texas State.
The field will play 36 holes on Monday with an 8 a.m. shotgun start, followed by the final round beginning with tee times at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday. Live video and commentary for the ninth and 18 holes will be provided at Louisiana Classics Tournament Central (click here for access).
UTSA finished sixth with a 16-over-par 880 (299-283-298) at last year's tournament behind a 20th-place showing from both Bryce Alley (76-71-72—219) and Ryan Werre (75-71-73—219). This will mark the Roadrunners' eighth trip to the Louisiana Classics. Their highest finish was a fourth-place effort and their best 54-hole scorecard was an 875, both in 2002.
UTSA finished 10th in its last outing at the Bayou City Collegiate Championships last weekend in Humble, Texas. Brett Hogan led the way by carding a 71-73-70—214 to tie for 10th place, his fourth straight top-10 finish. The junior from Calgary, Alberta, leads the Roadrunners with a 71.21 stroke average and is ranked 174th in the latest Golfstat Cup standings. He also stands eighth on Golf Canada's Men's Top 10 Amateur Rankings.
