HUNTSVILLE — UTSA won its third consecutive match on Friday with a 5-2 decision at former Southland Conference foe Sam Houston State.
The Roadrunners (3-1) grabbed the early lead by securing the doubles point against the host Bearkats (0-3).
Jacobea Junger and and Alena Shichkova downed Olivia Battye and Karen Martinez at the top spot in the lineup, 6-2, while Lina Hallgren and Nicole Karaklis won the deciding match against Fabienne Gettwart and Bailey VanDyke at the third position by a score of 6-3.
UTSA's success continued in singles play, as it won four of the six contests.
Junger got past Battye in straight sets at No. 1 (6-1, 6-4), while Karaklis improved to a perfect 4-0 on the season with her 7-6 (11-9), 7-6 (7-3) win against VanDyke on the third court.
Meanwhile, Hallgren defeated Mila Milanovic at the fourth position in straight sets (6-3, 6-3) and Irene Gandara Gonzalez picked up the Roadrunners' other point with her 6-0, 6-3 triumph against Martinez at the No. 5 spot.
UTSA will return to action next weekend with three home matches against South Alabama (Feb. 13), UT Arlington (Feb. 14) and Texas-Pan American (Feb. 15)
