WICHITA, Kan. — Wichita State blanked UTSA, 7-0, on Friday afternoon at Genesis Health Club's indoor courts.
The Roadrunners (1-3) dropped the first two doubles matches that finished in falling into an early 1-0 hole.
The Shockers’ (2-2) No. 17-ranked doubles tandem of Tomislav Gregurovic and Tin Ostojic ousted Tito Moreiras and Fabian Brand 6-3 on the first court. Meanwhile, Diogo Casa and Joel Rubio nearly came away with a victory at No. 3 but were edged in a 7-5 decision to Jocelyn Devillers and Miroslav Herzan.
In singles, Wichita State won on all six courts with three coming in straight sets on the second, third and sixth courts.
After dropping the first set, 6-1, No. 42 Tomas Stillman outscored No. 114 Ostojic, 6-4, in the second at the top singles spot. However, the senior suffered his second setback of the season after losing set three, 6-4.
Rubio took Herzan to a third set in a 6-3, 6-7, 6-4 setback at No. 5, while Moreiras saw Guillermo de Vilchez rally from a 6-1 defeat in the first set with 7-5 and 6-2 decisions to finish the sweep of the Roadrunners.
UTSA will return to action at 11 a.m. on Saturday with a neutral-site match against No. 57 George Washington (1-3).
