UTSA to begin four-game home stand this weekend against Bryant

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will welcome Bryant for its second home series of the season this weekend at Roadrunner Field. The three-game set is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. on Friday and the final two contests will be played at 2 p.m. and noon on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

Friday’s contest will mark the first-ever meeting between the two programs and the Bulldogs will be the third team the Roadrunners (2-2) have faced this year that played in the 2014 NCAA Tournament.

UTSA is coming off Tuesday's 14-2 loss at No. 6 Texas. The Roadrunners were within one run through the first six innings before a costly miscue in the seventh extended the Longhorns’ lead for the win.

Kevin Markham owns a team-high .438 batting average and the junior has scored six runs and added two home runs and a pair of RBIs.

Meanwhile, John Bormann is batting a .385 clip with four runs, two homers and a team-best six RBIs.

On the mound, Patrick Herbelin (1-0/1 save) leads the pitching staff with a 2.70 ERA in 6.2 innings of work out of the bullpen. He has recorded a team-best eight strikeouts and allowed just two runs on eight hits.

Bryant, which is opening its 2015 slate with a 16-game road trip, posted a 42-16 overall record last spring and also won the Northeast Conference Tournament. The Bulldogs earned a berth to the Baton Rouge Regional, but they lost back-to-back games to Houston and Southeastern Louisiana.

Bryant returns seven of its starting nine from a year ago and seven of its pitchers.

AJ Zarozny hit a squad-best .376 last season with 23 runs, five long balls, 17 RBIs and seven stolen bases.

On the bump, starter Kyle Wilcox returns after posting a 3-3 record and 3.02 ERA in 13 appearances, including 11 starts. He logged 59.2 innings and struck out 46.
