CORPUS CHRISTI — UTSA was blanked, 4-0, on Thursday afternoon at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
The Islanders (5-1), who won their fifth consecutive match, earned the doubles point after winning at the Nos. 1 and 3 positions.
After Maider Martin and Celia Rodriguez shut out Jacobea Junger and Alena Schichkova at the first spot,6-0, Miriam Rosell Candunas and Daniela Garcia-Diaz rallied for a 7-6 (9-7) triumph against Chelsea Horan and Jelena Dzinic at the No.2 spot. Judit Vives and Kerry Galhos then secured the early lead after defeating Lina Hallgren and Nicole Karaklis, 7-6 (7-3), on the third court.
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi clinched the victory by winning at the Nos. 2, 5, and 6 positions in singles lineup.
Junger, Rosell Canudas, and Karaklis went unfinished in their matchups.
The Roadrunners (3-3) will return to the courts on Sunday when they come back home to face Northwestern State (1-4) in an 11 a.m. contest.
