SAN ANTONIO — After a successful opening weekend against Louisiana-Lafayette, UTSA will have its first true road test of the season on Tuesday night when it travels up IH-35 to Austin to take on the No. 6 Texas at 6 p.m.
The Roadrunners took two of three games against the Ragin’ Cajuns, who won 58 games and advanced to an NCAA Super Regional a year ago. UTSA launched six home runs over the weekend after hitting just 27 in 61 contests last spring.
The Roadrunners are coming off Sunday's 11-5 victory after rallying from three separate deficits early in the game.
Kevin Markham and John Bormann each notched a pair of homers during the season-opening series. Markham is batting at a .455 clip (5-for-11) and he has scored six runs from the leadoff spot. Meanwhile, Bormann is hitting .400 (4-for-10) to go along with a team-leading six RBIs.
Patrick Herbelin tops the Roadrunners pitching staff with a 2.70 ERA and he had a win (Sunday) and a save (Friday) out of the bullpen last weekend. The right-hander logged 6.2 innings and allowed two runs on eight hits and struck out eight to go along with one walk.
The Longhorns (2-2) are coming a series split at 15th-ranked Rice. Texas won the series finale in extra innings, 4-3, after Michael McCann provided the game-winning double in the 10th.
