Charlotte snaps UTSA's winning streak on Saturday night, 74-54

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — UTSA saw its three-game winning streak come to an end at Charlotte on Saturday night by a score of 74-54 at Halton Arena.

The Roadrunners (12-13, 7-6 C-USA) were held to 36 percent shooting from the field (21-of-59) and they went scoreless from beyond the arc for the first time this season.

Kamra King and Tesha Smith each netted a team-best 10 points to lead UTSA. Niaga Mitchell-Cole contributed nine points and seven rebounds, while Akunna Elonu had eight points and eight boards.

The Roadrunners struggled in the opening 20 minutes, as they were held to 26 percent shooting (6-of-23), which tied for the second-lowest field goals made in a half this season.

The 49ers (10-14, 6-6 C-USA) came out of the gate shooting above 40 percent in each half. Charlotte, too, almost went scoreless from 3-point range, but Hillary Sigmon sank a three for her only points of the game late in the contest.

UTSA trailed by 15 at the half, 32-17, and the 49ers' lead continued to grow after intermission.

Kira Gordon paced Charlotte with 18 points and 11 rebounds for her third double-double of the year.

UTSA will return to the friendly confines of the Convocation Center net Saturday, Feb. 21, when it hosts UTEP (10-12, 5-8 C-USA) at 2 p.m.
