HOUSTON — UTSA picked up a total of seven top-three finishes at Friday's Houston Tune-up.
The Roadrunners received three silver medals in their final meet before the Conference USA Indoor Championships.
Andrew Akens was runner-up in the shot put with his season-best measurement of 59-0 ¾ (18.00m). It marked the fourth podium finish for Akens in as many meets this season and he now stands second in the league standings.
Meanwhile, Jurmarcus Shelvin raced to second place in the 200 meters with his time of 22.25.
Ty Anderson (6-8 ¾/2.05m) and Branden Perry (6-6 ¾/2.00m) placed second and third, respectively, in the high jump, but the duo were the top two collegiate finishers.
UTSA added three more bronze medals at the one-day meet.
Dusan Makevic clocked a 4:17.04 in the mile, while the distance medley relay of Tony Jaramillo, Mason Loiodice, Kourt’ney Payne and Makevic passed the baton in 10:39.02. Adrian Rlley had the other third-place effort in the long jump after breaking the sand in 23-2 ¾ (7.08m).
The Roadrunners will return to action in 12 days at the C-USA Indoor Championships in Birmingham, Ala. The two-day meet is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, Feb. 25.
