Sherman named Conference USA Player of the Week on Monday

IRVING — Kaj-Björn Sherman was named Conference USA Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.

The Mercer Island, Wash., native averaged 21 points and 9.5 rebounds last week, as the Roadrunners took a pair of road wins at FIU and Florida Atlantic. The 7-foot senior center played 35.5 minutes per game, shot 54.2 percent (13-of-24) from the floor and connected on 16 of his 21 (76.2 percent) free throw attempts.

Sherman opened the week with 14 points and four rebounds to aid a second-half rally past FIU on Feb. 5. He followed that performance with his second double-double with a career-high 28 points to go along with 15 rebounds two nights later at Florida Atlantic. Against the Owls he went 8-of-14 from the field and set career highs with 12 free throws made on 16 attempts. Sherman had 15 points in the first half and posted a double-double in the second half alone with 13 points and 10 boards in 19 minutes as UTSA picked up its seventh road win of the campaign.

The efforts continue an impressive stretch for Sherman, who has scored at least 10 points in each of the last 10 contests. During that span, he is averaging 15.3 points and 7.6 rebounds per game.

He is the second UTSA student-athlete to earn C-USA Player of the Week honors this season, as Jeromie Hill was honored on Jan. 26.

Sherman and the Roadrunners (12-10, 6-5 C-USA) will be back in action with a 7 p.m. home contest on Thursday against Old Dominion (18-4, 7-3 C-USA).
