SAN ANTONIO — UTSA is going back on the road with a pair of matches against Wichita State at 1 p.m. on Friday and No. 61 George Washington at 11 a.m. on Saturday, both at the Sheldon Coleman Tennis Complex in Wichita, Kan.
The Shockers (3-2) hold a 2-0 all-time series lead on the Roadrunners (1-2), including a 6-1 decision last March in San Antonio, and they are coming off a pair of 6-1 losses to No. 2 Oklahoma and 37th-ranked Tulsa.
Tomas Stillman, the ITA's No. 42-ranked singles player, will look to bounce back following a close loss to No. 43 Carlos Lopez Villa of Old Dominion in the Roadrunners' last outing on Jan. 23, a 5-2 setback to the Monarchs. The Harlingen native likely will face WSU’s No.117 Ostojic, who upset Oklahoma’s No. 20 Andrew Harris, 6-2, 2-6, 6-3.
Fabian Brand and Tito Moreiras are slated to compete against the WSU's 17th-ranked pairing of Tomislav Gregurovic and Tin Ostoji at the top spot in doubles. Stillman and two-time all-conference partner Yannick Junger enter the weekend undefeated at No. 2 doubles at 3-0. The Roadrunners have claimed the doubles point in all three matches this season.
For the second time this season, the Roadrunners have a combination of road matches with the second contest being against a ranked opponent on a neutral court.
Saturday will mark UTSA’s first meeting with the Colonials (1-3) who have fallen to No. 3 Virginia (7-0), 51st-ranked VCU (4-3), and No. 65 Cornell (5-2). Their sole victory of the season came against East Carolina (4-3).
