Roadrunners to host FIU on Thursday night

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will look to bounce back from its three-game losing skid when it welcomes FIU on Thursday, February 5, to the Convocation Center.

After picking up the program’s first-ever win over a nationally ranked team, the Roadrunners went on a three-game losing skid and are coming off a 73-57 road loss to UAB.

All but one Roadrunner scored as UTSA (9-12, 5-4) committed a season-low seven turnovers.

UTSA sits ninth in the Conference USA standings with the fourth best scoring defense (59.8) in the league. The Roadrunners are also fourth in rebounding margin with +3.7 boards.

On pace to lead the Roadrunners in scoring for the fourth consecutive year, Kamra King is the lone Roadrunner averaging double figures (12.4 ppg). The Norman, Okla. native also leads the team in assists (46) and is second on the team in steals (40).

FIU (3-16, 0-8) travels to the Lone Star State on an eight-game losing streak with its last win coming against Bowling Green at the FIU Sun & Fun Classic.  The Panthers last hosted Old Dominion and Charlotte at FIU Arena and lost by a combined 32 points.

Redshirt freshman Kiandre’a Pound leads the Panthers season box score averaging 15.9 points per game, along with 8.2 rebounds a night. Pound has been tabbed C-USA Freshman of the Week on five occasions this year.

Taylor Shade and Marita Daydova join Pound as the top scorers on the squad with 12.7 and 11.7 points an outing, respectively.

Despite having yet to record a win in league play, the Panthers are the leading rebounding team with +5.5 rebounds that its opponents.

UTSA leads the series 2-1 but suffered a 53-40 loss in the last meeting on Feb. 5, 2014 in the Alamo City.
