SAN ANTONIO — UTSA rolled to a home-opening 6-1 victory against Incarnate Word on Friday afternoon.
The Roadrunners (2-1) crusied to the doubles point with wins at the Nos. 2 and 3 spots in the lineup.
Lina Hallgren and Alena Shichkova easily defeated Antea Dedic and Malisa Vatanadilok, 6-1, at the second position and Daniela Garcia-Diaz and Sonia Madroñal Medina followed with a 6-3 triumph against Sarah Savedra and Taryn Strahl.
UTSA went on to claim five of the six singles contests in straight sets to clinch its second consecutive victory after dropping the season-opener at No. 37 Houston.
Shichkova downed Matea Zemunik at No. 2 by scores of 6-1 and 6-3. Meanwhile, Garcia-Diaz got past Vatanadilok at the fourth spot, 6-4, 6-0, and Hallgren clinched the victory with her 6-3, 6-0 win against Strahl at the fifth position.
The Roadrunners' other victories came from Nicole Karaklis and Irene Gandara Gonzalez.
Karaklis dropped just one game in defeating Savedra at No. 3 (6-1, 6-0) for her third consecutive triumph to open her junior campaign and Gandara Gonzalez downed Dedic at the sixth spot, 6-4, 6-1.
Rachel Sadiq rallied past Jacobea Junger at the top spot in the lineup (3-6, 6-4, 11-9) to pick up the lone point of the afternoon for Incarnate Word (0-3).
UTSA will return to the courts next Friday, Feb. 6, at Sam Houston State (0-2).
