MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — Middle Tennessee handed UTSA a 73-53 setback on Thursday night at the Murphy Center, which snapped the Roadrunners' longest winning streak of the season at three games.
UTSA (9-11, 4-4 C-USA) shot just 33 percent (20-of-61) from the field, as 11 players stepped foot on the hardwood.
Middle Tennessee (13-5, 7-1 C-USA) was hot from the field, as the Blue Raiders shot 42 percent (25-of-60) with four players in double figures.
Conference USA and Ann Meyers Drysdale Women’s National Player of the Week Cheyenne Parker nearly posted Middle Tennessee’s first-ever triple double with 25 points, 17 rebounds and seven blocks.
Niaga Mitchell-Cole paced the Roadrunners with 14 points off the bench on 6-of-10 shooting to go along with four rebounds.
UTSA struggled in the opening 20 minutes, as it faced a 16-point deficit following a five-and-half-minute scoring drought.
Mathilde Hergott halted the Blue Raiders’ scoring barrage when she nailed a 3-pointer with 9:57 to play in the first half. Hergott scored the following basket for UTSA and, three minutes later, the Roadrunners used a 6-0 run to cut into the lead.
The Roadrunners headed into the locker room trailing by seven after shooting 31 percent (9-of-29) from the field in the opening stanza.
The Blue Raiders pulled away in the latter half, leading by as many as 23 points with 4:10 remaining.
UTSA will return to action on at 2 p.m. on Saturday at UAB (9-9, 3-4 C-USA).
