SAN ANTONIO — Former UTSA wide receiver Kam Jones has earned an invitation to play in Saturday's College Gridiron Showcase. The postseason all-star game is scheduled to be played at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at Maverick Stadium in Arlington. Jones will be a member of the Desperados, who will be coached by Marcus Dupree.
"I am excited about the opportunity to play in Saturday's game," said Jones, who was invited to participate on Wednesday evening. "It gives me a chance to work with players from some of the top teams in the country and in front of professional scouts."
Jones is coming off a senior season that saw him catch a team-leading 34 passes for 232 yards. The former prep quarterback also rushed 25 times for 69 yards and a touchdown in addition to returning 12 kickoffs for 327 yards (27.2 avg.).
The 5-foot-11, 190-pounder finished his Roadrunners career as the program's all-time leading receiver with 130 receptions for 1,478 yards (11.4 avg.). He earned honorable mention All-Conference USA accolades his final two seasons.
College Gridiron Showcase is an all-star game for all college football divisions. The contest will be a showcase and provide exposure for top seniors from around the country. The players were selected by a panel of football experts to be evaluated by scouts from top professional leagues such as the National Football League, Canadian Football League and Arena Football League.
