UTSA looks to continue win streak on road this weekend

SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will look to continue its three-game winning streak this weekend when it travels to Middle Tennessee and UAB for a pair of Conference USA contests. The Roadrunners and Blue Raiders will square off at 7 p.m. on Thursday and that will be followed by a 2 p.m. contest against the Blazers two days later.

UTSA (9-10, 4-3 C-USA) is riding its longest win streak of the season following Saturday's upset victory against then-No. 24 Western Kentucky. The Roadrunners rallied in the final two-and-half minutes to snap the Hilltoppers 14-game winning streak and capture its first-ever win over a ranked opponent. UTSA had lost all 17 games against ranked foes prior to Saturday’s victory.

In the last two games, the Roadrunners averaging 20.5 rebounds per game than their opponents (93-52) and they rank 65th nationally in rebounding margin. The team is also netting 60.1 points per game and it yields the best scoring defense in the league with 58.4 points an outing.

Kamra King leads UTSA with 12.9 points per game and 41 assists.

The Roadrunners only have had one prior meeting with Middle Tennessee (12-5, 6-1 C-USA) and UAB (9-9, 3-4 C-USA), which came a year ago, and they dropped both matchups.

The Blue Raiders have won their last three games and they are tied for first in the Conference USA standings with Western Kentucky. Middle Tennessee holds the second-best scoring offense in the league at 74.1 points per game and it is allowing 62.3 from its opponents. The Blue Raiders rank 24th in the NCAA in 3-point field goals per game with a conference-best 7.8.

Meanwhile, UAB sits ninth in the C-USA standings and it will host UTEP on Thursday before playing the Roadrunners. The Blazers are coming off a 58-46 loss to Old Dominion. Janae Smith anchors a Blazers team that is putting out 60.3 points a night. Smith leads the team with 17.2 points and 7.2 rebounds per game, while also topping the team in assists (44), steals (29) and blocked shots (29).
