SAN ANTONIO — UTSA fell short to Old Dominion, 5-2, on Friday in the first home match of the spring season at the UTSA Tennis Center.
UTSA (1-2) started strong with Conference USA Player of the Week, Tomas Stillman, and two-time all-conference partner Yunnick Junger, tallying a 6-4 victory against Theophile Lanthiez and Carlos Lopez Villa at the No. 2 doubles position. The pair now is a perfect 3-0 this season. The Roadrunners then earned the doubles point after a 7-5 win by Fabian Brand and Tito Moreiras against Adam Moundir and Michael Weindl at the top spot.
However, Old Dominon (2-0) won on five courts in singles competition to clinch the come-from-behind triumph.
The only singles victory for UTSA came from Moreiras, who ousted Lanthiez 7-5, 6-2 on the fourth court.
In the final remaining contest, which was a battle of nationally-ranked players, No. 42 Stillman fell to No. 43 Lopez Villa in a close 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) tiebreaker at No.1.
The Roadrunners will look to bounce back next Friday, Feb. 6, when they travel to Wichita State.
