SAN ANTONIO — UTSA had three players in double figures and held Marshall to its lowest-scoring game of the season in a convincing 60-48 victory on Thursday night at the Convocation Center.
The Roadrunners (8-10, 3-3 C-USA) doubled up the Thundering Herd on the glass, 50-25, and held them to 33 percent shooting from the field (18-of-55). Marshall (11-6, 3-3 C-USA) registered 15 of its 25 rebounds in the second half.
Akunna Elonu earned her third double-double of the season on 14 points and 11 rebounds. Mannasha Bell also chipped in with a double-double effort of 10 points and 11 rebounds, while Mathilde Hergott matched a season best with 10 points.
In the opening half, UTSA trailed for much of the first 20 minutes before Kamra King tied the score at 15 on her second free throw of the game. Two more ties ensued before the Roadrunners managed to grab a one-point lead heading into halftime, 30-29.
UTSA opened the second half on a 13-3 run to lead 43-32 with 13:46 to play. Marshall got within seven on three occasions but was unable to make up the deficit.
Norrisha Victrum netted a team-best 14 points for the Thundering Herd and Leah Scott 11.
The Roadrunners will be back in action on Saturday when they host No. 24 Western Kentucky (17-2, 6-0 C-USA) at 2 p.m.
