UTSA to return home this weekend to face Marshall, Western Kentucky

SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA women’s basketball team will play its first home games in nearly three weeks when it welcomes Marshall and No. 24 Western Kentucky to the Convocation Center for a pair of Conference USA contests on Thursday night and Saturday afternoon, respectively.

The Roadrunners (7-10, 2-3 C-USA), who will host the Thundering Herd at 7 p.m., are coming off Saturday's 55-53 victory at UTEP. Three players, led by Niaga Mitchell-Cole's 13 points off the bench, scored in double figures. It was the junior's first outing after missing nine games due to injury.

Marshall will travel to the Alamo City with an 11-5 overall record and 3-2 mark in league play. Leah Scott was named C-USA Player of the Week earlier in the week after leading the team to a pair of wins and averaging 18 points per game. Meanwhile, Chukwuka Ezeigbo is averaging 11.1 points an outing and shooting an NCAA-leading 68.3 percent (82-for-120) from the field. She also ranks fourth in the nation with five offensive rebounds per contest.

Meanwhile, Western Kentucky (16-2, 5-0 C-USA) will head to the Lone Star State on a 13-game win streak. The Hilltoppers are scoring 79.2 points per game, which ranks 11th in the nation. They are led by C-USA Preseason Player of the Year Chastity Gooch, who is averaging 17.3 points per outing.

Thursday’s meeting against Marshall will be the second in program history while Saturday’s against Western Kentucky will be the first-ever. Last time UTSA and Marshall tipped off, the Thundering Herd recorded an 81-75 overtime victory in Huntington, W.Va.
