Huston Street to be keynote speaker at annual First Pitch Banquet

SAN ANTONIO — Los Angeles Angels right-handed pitcher Huston Street will serve as the featured keynote speaker at the Roadrunners’ annual First Pitch Banquet on Saturday, Feb. 7.

The event will begin at 6 p.m. at the H-E-B University Center Ballroom with a silent auction and raffle prior to the commencement of the program at 6:45 p.m.

Street was selected by the Oakland Athletics in the first round of the 2004 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft after a successful career at The University of Texas. After making his way up through the minor leagues, he made his major league debut on April 6, 2005, and went 5-1 that year with a 1.72 ERA and was named the American League’s Rookie of the Year.

The Texas native played three more seasons with Oakland before being traded to the Colorado Rockies in 2008. Since then, Street has played with the San Diego Padres (2012-13), Toronto Blue Jays (2014), and currently as the closer for the Los Angeles Angels. He twice has been named an All-Star, first in 2012 and again in 2014.

Those planning on attending the banquet can register online by clicking here. Admission is $75 per seat and dress is business casual.

The First Pitch Banquet is held each year to raise funds for the UTSA baseball program. The event will include player introductions, academic and athletics awards presentation, video highlights and words from head coach Jason Marshall.
