SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA track & field teams will return to action on Saturday at the Texas A&M Team Invitational. The one-day scored meet is scheduled to get underway at noon at Gilliam Indoor Track & Field Stadium.
The Roadrunners will compete against athletes from Abilene Christian, Baylor, Louisiana Tech, Stephen F. Austin, TCU, Texas State and UT Arlington in addition to the host Aggies (click here for the complete meet schedule).
The UTSA men earned three gold medals and a total of six podium finishes at last Friday's Houston Opener. Leading the way were double winners Christopher Hall and Jurmarcus Shelvin.
Hall won the 200 meters in 22.19 and Shelvin was victorious in the quarter with a time of 49.83. The pair later joined Keyunta Hayes and Dionte Robinson for a win in the final event of the meet, the 1,600m relay. The foursome passed the baton in 3:19.23 en route to gold.
Meanwhile, Whitney Flannel and Stephanie Wangui each posted runner-up finishes to lead the women at the season-opening event.
Flannel cleared 5-7 ¾ (1.72m) and she finished tied with Sam Houston State's Paula Smith for the top mark in the field of 20, but the senior from West Columbia earned the silver medal due to one more miss than Smith.
Wangui finished as the top collegian in the 800 meters after crossing the tape in 2:18.47. API Athletics' Regina George won the event in a meet-record time of 2:08.45. Earlier in the day, the junior from Leander placed fifth in the mile in 5:20.26.
