SAN ANTONIO — The UTSA men's and women's track & field teams will begin their indoor seasons on Friday when they compete at the Houston Opener. The Roadrunners will send a full contingent of athletes to the one-day meet, which will be contested at Bill Yeoman Fieldhouse on the campus of the University of Houston.
The action will begin with the weight throw at 9 a.m. and will follow a rolling schedule of events throughout the day. The running events are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. with the 60m hurdles preliminary heats.
The Roadrunners and host Cougars will compete from athletes from Houston Baptist, Lamar, Prairie View A&M, Sam Houston State, Stephen F. Austin, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Texas Southern and various club teams from around the Greater Houston area.
UTSA return 23 men and welcome 17 newcomers this season, while the women have 21 athletes back from last year's squad that finished second at the Conference USA Indoor Championships to go along with seven newcomers.
Friday will mark the first of four outings leading up to this year's league championship meet, which is scheduled for Feb. 25-26 in Birmingham, Ala.
