SKILMAN, N.J. — Tomas Stillman debuted at No. 42 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) men’s national singles rankings that were released on Tuesday. The Harlingen native also is ranked seventh in the ITA Texas Regional rankings.
Stillman opened the 2014 fall campaign with 12 consecutive victories, including all six en route to the Rice Fall Invitational singles title. The 2014 Conference USA Newcomer of the Year earned the league’s Athlete of the Month award for September and made a run to the ITA All-American Championships Main Singles Draw before finishing the season with a 14-3 ledger.
In his first year with the Roadrunners, the transfer from Toledo led the squad with a 21-2 singles record on his way to collecting second-team All-Conference USA accolades last spring. Stillman won his last eight and 20 of his final 21 completed matches, 18 in straight sets, during his junior season. He also teamed with Joel Rubio for a 15-7 record as UTSA’s top doubles team and the duo picked up second-team all-conference honors.
Stillman is the highest-ranked player from C-USA, coming in one spot ahead of No. 43 Carlos Lopez Villa of Old Dominion. Louisville’s Sebastian Stiefelmeyer is the nation’s top-ranked player entering the 2015 season.
Stillman also is the top-ranked league player in the Texas Regional Rankings, as Rice’s David Warren, who Stillman knocked off in the Rice Fall Invitational championship match, is 17th.
