Leonard to be honored on Tuesday night at 57th Annual National Football Foundation Awards Dinner

NEW YORK, N.Y. — Nate Leonard will be honored as part of Tuesday night's 57th Annual National Football Foundation (NFF) Awards Dinner at the historic Waldorf Astoria.

The senior center from McKinney was named one of 17 NFF Scholar-Athletes on Oct. 30. Presented by Fidelity Investments, Leonard and his fellow 16 honorees also comprise the list of finalists for the 2014 William V. Campbell Trophy, which recognizes the individual that is the absolute best scholar-athlete in the nation. This year's winner will be announced at Tuesday's ceremony, which will start at 7 p.m. (CT), and it will be streamed live on ESPN3 and the NFF's home page (footballfoundation.org). The Campell Award recipient is scheduled to be unveiled at 7:58 p.m. (CT).

"Being able to represent UTSA in New York City is an absolute honor, but it is also an honor to be named alongside 16 other amazing scholar-athletes from around the country," Leonard said. "This award represents the purest form of student-athlete and I am ecstatic that I can help continue to put UTSA on the big stage where it deserves to be."

Monday night saw Leonard participate in a meet and great with his fellow scholar-athletes along with some sightseeing of The Big Apple.

Last week, the 6-foot, 280-pounder was named a first-team Capital One Academic All-American and to Conference USA's All-Academic Team. The only player to start all 46 games in UTSA history, he maintains a 3.99 GPA in physical education and is scheduled to graduate in May 2015.
