SAN ANTONIO — Texas State held UTSA scoreless over the final 2:48 and outscored the Roadrunners 11-0 over that span en route to a 57-53 come-from-behind victory on Thursday night at the Convocation Center.
Ashley Spaletta scored the final bucket for UTSA (4-3) with a 3-pointer, which gave the Birds a seven-point lead at 53-46.
However, Texas State (3-3) responded back with back-to-back shots from beyond the arc to trail by one with 44 ticks on the clock.
Ayriel Anderson then was fouled with 21 seconds to play and she made both free throws to give the Bobcats a one-point lead at 54-53. Anderson, who finished the night with 12 points, then made three more trips to the line to secure the I-35 rivalry win.
Three Roadrunners in double figures and Tesha Smith registered a double-double. Kamra King and Spaletta each netted 13 points, while Smith notched 11 points and hauled in a career-high 12 rebounds.
UTSA, which shot 38 percent from the field (22-of-58), took a 28-24 lead into the locker room, but it lost for the first time this season when ahead at halftime.
The Roadrunners will be back in action on Friday, Dec. 19, when they take on Houston (3-3) at the Athletes for Action Tournament in Lubbock.
