SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will close out the calendar year this week when it hosts its annual Holiday Classic on Sunday and Monday. The Roadrunners will welcome Chattanooga, SIU Edwardsville and South Dakota to the Convocation Center.
The two-day event will feature two games per day with Chattanooga and SIU Edwardsville kicking off the action on at noon on Sunday. UTSA and South Dakota will follow at 2:30 p.m. and at the conclusion of the contest, former head women’s basketball coach, the late Rae Rippetoe-Blair, will be honored as the Southland’s Coach of the Decade of the 2000s.
The Roadrunners (4-6) enter the tournament on a four-game losing skid. UTSA last hit the hardwood at the Athletes in Action Classic hosted by Texas Tech one week ago and lost to Houston, Texas Tech and Nicholls.
SIU Edwardsville (5-6), which will sqaure off with UTSA at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, comes to the Lone Star State winners of its last two games.
Meanwhile, South Dakota (9-2) is riding a seven-game win streak. The Coyotes’ only losses this season came to Kansas and Washington.
Chattanooga (9-3), the only team that the Roadrunners will not play over the two days, has won its last five games.
