FORT WORTH — TCU shot 60.8 percent and closed the first half on a 24-8 run to break open a close game in an 88-57 victory against UTSA on Saturday night at Wilkerson-Greines Activity Center.
Keon Lewis led all scorers with 23 points for the Roadrunners (4-5). The Seattle native finished the night 7-of-11 from the floor, 2-of-4 from behind the arc and 7-of-8 at the charity stripe for his third 20-point outing of the season.
Meanwhile, Kyan Anderson neared a double-double for Horned Frogs (11-0), who remained one of nine unbeaten teams in Division I, with 16 points and nine assists. Brandon Parrish led the squad with 18 points, while Kenrich Williams (12 points) and Trey Zeigler (10 points) also reached double figures.
UTSA won the tip and Lewis wasted little time in giving the Roadrunners an early lead with the first of his five first-half baskets. Kyan Anderson responded with a 3-pointer to set the stage for a back-and-forth contest.
Through the first 13 minutes of the opening half the score was tied five times and neither team led by more than three points.
Lewis’ layup with 12:20 to go in the period gave the Roadrunners an 11-9 advantage, but it would prove to be the last for the visitors.
A pair of Larry Lewis Jr. free throws pulled UTSA within one, 19-18, before the Horned Frogs outscored the Roadrunners 24-8 over the final seven minutes for a 43-26 cushion at halftime.
Jeromie Hill connected on a jumper before his steal and assist led to a Lewis triple as the Roadrunners scored six straight to start the second half.
However, TCU responded with a 12-0 run for a 55-32 advantage and the Horned Frogs’ lead would not dip below 20 the rest of the way.
The Roadrunners will be back in action at the Convocation Center for a 1 p.m. matchup with Cameron (7-4) on Tuesday, Dec. 30.
