SAN ANTONIO — The Roadrunner Athletic Fund, the fundraising arm of the UTSA Athletics Department, brought in more than $4 million during the 2013-14 fiscal year thanks to the support of its 2,200-plus members.
Donations totaled $4.028 million, a figure that shattered the previous record of $2.765 million in 2013. The year also saw the largest single gift to UTSA Athletics for the second consecutive year.
“On behalf of the entire UTSA Athletics Department, we are extremely thankful and appreciative of the overwhelming support of our Roadrunner Athletic Fund members,” Director of Athletics Lynn Hickey said. “This is an exciting time to be involved with UTSA Athletics and our university, and the future is even brighter. These donations have a tremendous impact on our student-athletes and the atmosphere we are able to provide for them. That would not be possible without the generous financial support of our donors.”
“So many of our alumni, fans and friends of the university have been incredibly loyal to UTSA Athletics and the Roadrunner Athletic Fund,” Associate Athletics Director/Development Brandon Raphael said. “It is their commitment and passion for the Roadrunners that has helped elevate UTSA Athletics to a new fundraising record. Every gift makes an incredible impact on our student-athletes and creates new opportunities for scholarships, sport-specific excellence funds and facilities.
“I’d also like to point out the outstanding work of Director of Roadrunner Athletic Fund Taylor Adkins and Development Assistant Victor Yates in our fundraising efforts. We are excited about what 2015 will bring, as we expand our staff with the addition of two more assistants with the goal to take the program to even greater heights.”
The Roadrunner Athletic Fund recently launched many new initiatives that led to the growth in donors and dollars received. This included the overarching campaign of “Give What You Can” and “Go All In.” The addition of several new programs and campaigns such as the “110% and One More Step” were examples of engagement opportunities for donors to strengthen their impact and show that every gift matters. Additionally this fall, more than 100 student-athletes took part in a thank-a-thon where they called donors to thank them for their gift.
The Roadrunner Athletic Fund provides the more than 350 student-athletes in 17 intercollegiate sports at UTSA with the support to receive first-class education while competing at the highest levels. The Roadrunner Athletic Fund directly impacts the lives of our students by providing scholarship and other important funding that is used to enhance athletics programs and facilities. Every dollar is directly reinvested in the lives of the most precious resource in the UTSA Athletics Department — the student-athlete.
