SAN ANTONIO — UTSA Director of Athletics Lynn Hickey announced Monday that she has hired Kevin Terry as senior associate athletics director for business/chief financial officer. His appointment is effective immediately.
“We are very excited to have Kevin on board,” Hickey said. “He brings a high level of expertise and years of quality collegiate business experience to UTSA. Kevin will be an excellent resource for us as we continue to build our program at the Division I FBS level.”
Terry comes to UTSA with more than 15 years of intercollegiate athletics experience at Florida State, Florida A&M and Georgia Tech.
He previously served as an associate athletics director at Florida A&M in Tallahassee, where he was responsible for internal operations, along with business, contract, financial and procurement activities. He joined the Florida A&M staff as a volunteer consultant in April 2013 and eventually was promoted in January 2014.
Terry spent more than eight years at Florida State, starting as assistant business manager for athletics in July 2004, before working his way up to business manager for athletics in March 2007, assistant athletics director for business & finance in November 2007 and senior associate athletics/chief financial officer in July 2010.
While at Florida State, Terry was a member of the executive and senior management team for more than five years, was responsible for all facets of financial planning, operations and budgets and had oversight of business operations, ticketing, information technology, human resources, facilities, event management, marketing & promotions and digital media. He implemented zero-based budgeting, activity-based accounting and cost center management while collaborating with coaches and unit managers to develop and manage budgets for 20 sports exceeding $70 million. He also served as the program administrator for men’s basketball, assisted with design and structure of coaches’ contracts and negotiated several contracts, including pouring rights and travel agency agreements.
Prior to his tenure at Florida State, Terry worked at Georgia Tech from 1998-2004. He began his intercollegiate athletics career as assistant to the executive associate athletics director and then was promoted to ticket office accounting & systems administrator in March 1999 and assistant director of business operations in June 2001.
He is a member of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics and Collegiate Athletics Business Management Association.
Terry earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration/finance in 1998 and a master’s degree in sport administration in 2000, both from Georgia State.
