SAN ANTONIO — Four UTSA players scored in double figures and the Roadrunners cruised to a 95-40 victory against Howard Payne on Saturday in the final exhibition game of the season.
UTSA, which scored 48 points in the first half and scored another 47 after intermission, was led by Akunna Elonu's 17 points and she added three rebounds and three steals. Carlie Heineman added 16 points to go along with six rebounds, Kamra King netted a dozen and Mannasha Bell chipped in with 10.
The Roadrunners bench contributed 56 points on the day compared to the Yellow Jackets’ 14.
Howard Payne struggled to find its rhythm in the first half, as it shot just 21 percent (5-of-24) from the field.
Meanwhile, UTSA went on a scoring barrage and used a 14-0 run to lead, 17-2.
The Roadrunners continued to extend their advantage throughout the half and made 21 trips to the charity strip. UTSA led by as many as 28 with 3:53 remaining on the clock.
The Roadrunners came out of the break on fire and fired at a 67-percent clip (20-for-30) from the field. UTSA closed out the contest with a 7-2 run with Taylor Williams scoring four of those points.
Sarah Van Remmen led the Yellow Jackets with 11 points, five boards, three assists and a pair of steals.
UTSA will open its regular season next Saturday, Nov. 15, when it travels to Austin to take on No. 9 Texas at 2 p.m.
