SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will welcome a trio of teams to its annual two-day Thanksgiving Classic, which is slated to be played on Friday and Sunday at the Convocation Center.
Participating alongside UTSA (2-1) in this year’s event are Drake, Fordham and Incarnate Word. Two games will be played on each day of the tournament with Fordham and UIW tipping off the tournament at noon on Friday.
The Roadrunners will face Drake at 2:30 p.m. on Friday and will then return Sunday to take on neighboring Incarnate Word at 5 p.m. UTSA will meet each of its opponents for the first time in program annals.
The event's other contest will see Drake and Fordham take the court at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday.
The Roadrunners have won their last two outings against Abilene Christian and at Lamar after dropping the season opener at No. 9 Texas.
The duo of Kamra King and Niaga Mitchell-Cole have led the Roadrunners through the first three games of the season. King is averaging a team-best 13 points a night, while Mitchell-Cole is adding 12.5. Tesha Smith is grabbing 7.3 rebounds a game and she also is scoring 8.7 points off the bench.
Drake (1-3) has been outscored by its opponents (79.5-73.5) and also is being outrebounded through the season's first four games.
Incarnate Word (2-2) will have the shortest trek between the visiting teams, as the Cardinals also hail from the Alamo City. UIW is paced by Aricka Adams' 15.0 points a night and she is shooting 46 percent from the field.
