SAN ANTONIO — UTSA will trek to east Texas on Sunday to take on the Lamar Cardinals in nonconference action at 2 p.m.
UTSA (1-1) hits the road for the second time this season and is coming off a 70-57 victory over Abilene Christian in the Roadrunners’ home opener. Niaga Mitchell-Cole poured in a career best 16 points with seven boards.
The Roadrunners are averaging 59 points a night, but surrendering 62.5 an outing through just two games this season.
UTSA has three Roadrunners scoring in double figures with Mitchell-Cole averaging 16 points per game. Senior Kamra King is adding 13.5 a night while Carlie Heineman chips in with 10.5 per night.
Sunday’s meeting will be the 34th all-time as Lamar leads the series 17-16. The Cardinals have won the last five against UTSA with the Roadrunners last getting the win back in 2009.
LU has yet to notch a win in the 2014-15 season with three straight losses to begin the year. The Cardinals opened at home with La.-Lafayette and then hit the road for a two-game road swing in the Sooner State. Tulsa and Oklahoma handed Lamar losses with OU dishing out a 27-point defeat, the largest this season.
